Monitor Screen Statuses & Get Online/Offline Notifications
At Kitcast, we want to make it easy for you to monitor the status of your screens. This article explains how the screen statuses work, how they change, and how you can get notified about those changes.
Checking Your Screen Status
To check the status of your screen, follow these simple steps:
- Log in to your Kitcast Dashboard.
- Select the Group that you want to check.
- Go to the Screens tab.
- Here, you’ll see your screen connected, along with the Status column.
In this column, you will see either a gray or green dot. A green dot means that your screen is online and connected to Kitcast.
If you see a gray dot, it indicates the screen is offline.
Why Might the Screen Be Offline?
If your screen shows a gray dot, it could be due to the following reasons:
- Internet connection issue: The screen lost its internet connection and switched to offline mode.
- Kitcast app closed: The Kitcast application might have been closed for some reason, causing the screen to go offline.
- Screen turned off: If the screen was physically turned off, the content playback stops, and the status will reflect this change.
What is Offline Mode and How It Works
Offline Mode refers to a state in which a device continues to operate and display previously loaded content, but it is not able to receive updates or new data due to a lack of internet connection. In this mode, the device will show whatever content was last synced or cached before the connection was lost. Any changes made on the dashboard or updates to the content during this period will not be reflected on the screen until the device reconnects to the internet and syncs with the latest information.
What to Do If the Dot Is Gray?
If the screen status is gray, but you haven’t turned off the device, here are a few things you can check:
- Physically check the screen: If the issue persists, physically inspect the screen to see if it’s powered on and functioning properly.
- Check your internet connection: Ensure the screen is still connected to a stable internet source.
- Check Kitcast app: Ensure the Kitcast app is still running and active on the screen.
Notifications About Status Changes
We want to make sure you’re always aware when your screen’s status changes. There are two main ways you can receive notifications about these changes:
- In-App Notifications:
- Go to the Notification Bell icon in the top corner of your Kitcast account.
- Click on it, and you’ll see real-time updates about your screen’s online/offline status:
- Email Notifications:
- You will receive email notifications when the status of your screen changes.
- For Online Status: You’ll receive an email when your screen comes back online.
- For Offline Status: You’ll receive an email when your screen goes offline.
These emails are sent to the account email address you’ve provided and will arrive within 10-15 minutes of the status change happening in real-time.
Conclusion
Keeping track of your screen's status and receiving notifications about any changes helps you stay informed and address any issues promptly. If you notice your screen is offline, follow the steps above to troubleshoot the issue. And don't forget, you can always rely on in-app and email notifications to keep you updated!
