Setting Up AirPlay Interruption for CAP Emergency Alerts in Kitcast Using Jamf Pro
This article provides a step-by-step guide for Kitcast users to configure automatic interruption of AirPlay on managed devices during emergency alerts. Using Jamf Pro as an example, we’ll show how to set up a configuration profile that pauses AirPlay when CAP Emergency Alerts are triggered in Kitcast. This setup helps ensure that critical information displays immediately, even if devices are actively streaming via AirPlay.
Step 1: Configuring the AirPlay Restriction Profile in Jamf Pro
To set up AirPlay interruption, first configure an AirPlay restriction profile in Jamf Pro:
- Log in to your Jamf Pro dashboard and navigate to Configuration Profiles.
- Click Create to start a new configuration profile.
- In the profile settings, add the Restrictions payload.
- Under the AirPlay section, locate the setting Allow AirPlay and set it to "Off." This setting will temporarily disable AirPlay on devices when deployed.
- Save this configuration profile. It will be available for Kitcast to deploy as needed but will not be immediately applied.
Note: This profile will only be activated by Kitcast when a CAP Emergency Alert is triggered, ensuring AirPlay is interrupted only in critical situations.
Step 2: Enabling AirPlay Interruption in Kitcast
After setting up the profile in Jamf Pro, configure the Kitcast dashboard to enable AirPlay interruption for CAP Emergency Alerts:
- Log in to the Kitcast dashboard.
- Go to Settings > Emergency Alerts.
- Enable the AirPlay Interruption option for CAP Emergency Alerts.
- Select the devices or device groups that should have AirPlay interrupted during emergencies. Only these selected devices will receive the AirPlay restriction profile when an alert is triggered.
How It Works
Once configured, the system operates as follows:
- Triggering the Emergency Alert: When a CAP Emergency Alert appears in the RSS feed, Kitcast will automatically instruct Jamf Pro to deploy the AirPlay restriction profile to the selected devices. This profile immediately disables AirPlay, ensuring the alert displays without delay.
- Restoring AirPlay: After the alert is cleared or the alert period ends, Kitcast will remove the AirPlay restriction profile from devices, re-enabling AirPlay automatically.
This setup ensures that your emergency alerts take priority, interrupting AirPlay only when absolutely necessary and restoring normal functionality afterward.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Devices Not Responding to Profile Changes: Make sure that each device is properly enrolled in Jamf Pro and has received the necessary configuration profiles.
- AirPlay Doesn’t Resume: If AirPlay does not restore automatically after an emergency alert, check the Kitcast and Jamf Pro logs for any errors, and consider manually reapplying the original configuration profile in Jamf if needed.
This guide should help you set up AirPlay interruption effectively, ensuring that critical messages can reach your audience even in active AirPlay sessions. For additional support, please contact Kitcast Support.
